SAMPLE presented the works of its artists at the young contemporary art fair blazar.

In September 2021, the SAMPLE Gallery participated in the second edition of the young contemporary art fair blazar at the Moscow Museum.

Not limited by strict rules, we were able to update the exhibition several times and show the works of already known artists, as well as those of young artists with whom we have begun to cooperate recently.

For example, we showed part of Rodion Kitaev’s “Toys” series. Inspired by the childhood memories of Rodion, the abstract canvases show encrypted plasticine characters, which the artist created in his childhood and invented stories for them – “series”, which predetermined the author’s serial approach to painting works.
His parents noticed the future artist’s passion for modeling and sent him to study sculpture, and later architecture. An architectural background is evident in the plastics of Rodion’s characters, both in the “Toys” series and in other works.

Natasha Goncharova has created a new pictorial series especially for the SAMPLE stand at the blazar. Developing her authorial style, the artist turned to religious and historical themes and created large-scale paintings “Good News”, “Tsarevich Dmitry”, “The Descent of Christ into Hell”. Works exploring “mundane” subjects – “Talking/Trading” and “Russian People/Life of the NTSH in Mitino” – took the form of shapeshifters, engaging the viewer in active interaction with them.

One of the main points of attraction of the stand was a series of ceramic works by Apollinaria Brosh. Intimate scenography, filled with youthful, nostalgic memories (especially in the works “Home, sweet home” and in the ceramic “Socks”), continues the artist’s tradition of engaging the viewer in the author’s story. The story unfolds before the viewer like a theatrical performance in which the works themselves serve both as a source of narrative and as a setting.

At the SAMPLE stand at the fair there were also paintings and graphic works by Zhenya Vlasova, Anna Volkova, Apollinaria Kaspars, Lera Popova and the hits of the first blazar edition – Lota Lota ceramics and Exantres paintings.
