The project is intended to show the contemporary artists’ view on the changes that have occurred in the world since the beginning of 2020. The artists were invited to express their ideas on the pizza box, which can be safely considered one of the symbols of 2020, because during the self-isolation everyone at least once ordered a pizza at home.
The teams of Maestrello Pizzeria and SAMPLE online gallery sent pizza with delivery to young talented artists and asked them to express their feelings about the current world situation on an unconventional canvas – a pizza box.
In the pizzerias Maestrello on Pokrovka and Danilovsky Market you could buy pizza in the boxes with the prints of works by Alisa Gvozdeva, Evgenia Dudnikova, Vika Kogai and Dmitry Samygin, and on the SAMPLE site the original boxes were painted by the authors.
Here’s how the online gallery’s artists made sense of the year of pandemic and lockdown:
“2020 showed how human beings are social creatures, how important friends and contact with loved ones are to them, what a big and important part of life it is. And although remote communication via ZOOM is not a bad way to communicate, it’s still a good idea to develop telepathic abilities in the future in case of new contingencies” – Evgeniya Dudnikova.
“This is a story about a picnic, with close friends, in nature. When I created it, I was thinking about summer, meeting my loved ones, feeling light and free” – Alisa Gvozdeva.
“I didn’t put any specific meaning, I just wanted to feel and convey the summer mood and lightness, like going to a pizzeria with a group of friends. I tried to make the box pleasant to hold and sorry to throw away” – Dmitry Samygin.
