Paintings and graphics of Dmitry Samygin, on the one hand, continue his design work with furniture. In this respect he solves the issues of spatial comfort. Comfort for eyes, looking at the image, is equal to body comfort, which is placed on the sofa or in a chair. Comfort in general is the key concept for Samygin. Abstract compositions, according to the artist himself, are the result of “evening creative meditation after working day”. On the other hand, Samygin adopts the whole rich arsenal of formal artwork for more than a century – from modernism and avant-garde through pop art and minimalism to today’s neomodernism. Somewhere more or less distinguish direct quotations, somewhere it is rather a respectful nod to the teachers from the last century. But he also does not forget about his design colleagues, mostly contemporaries. Scheme of the Moscow Metro snakes sprawled on a sheet of paper, and the characteristic Russian fence turns into a closed thing in itself.
